Project Self’s mission is to help people achieve the healthiest and happiest version of themselves by addressing, improving, and maintaining their physical, emotional, and mental health needs. When you are your best self in everything you do and around everyone in your life, not only you will be fulfilled and achieve your full potential, but people around you and your community improve as well. 

My fitness and health services focus on people 50 and older, specifically to promote longevity and  independence for healthy and graceful aging. A lot of people move less the older they get. The CDC reports that only 23.1% of people aged 65 years and older meet the federal physical activity guidelines. The old saying “use it or lose it” is accurate. The less we move and exercise, the more we lose strength and muscle. This affects our physical, emotional, and mental health. 

We will all grow older, but we can also grow stronger, healthier, and maintain our independence. I am here to help you start, maintain, improve, and manage a healthy lifestyle to maintain independence through both my fitness training and my nursing services. All sessions take place in the comfort of your home!

I look at the person holistically, not just at one separate issue. Let’s say you have a wound that needs to be cared for at home, I don’t just help you do that. I assess what other parts of your life this has been affecting, and address that as well. I apply this to every aspect of my care.

There isn’t enough space to write about the benefits of regular exercise and physical activity. Everyone benefits from exercising. As we get older, continuing to be active and working out has numerous positive effects on our independence, general health, and quality of life. From controlling weight, preventing and managing many health conditions, to maintaining muscle strength, balance, memory function, and improving sleep and mood, the benefits are too many and too good to ignore. Exercise is one of the easiest ways to reduce the risk of chronic disease and maintain good health. I am a Certified Personal Trainer, a Stretching +Flexbility Coach, and a Senior Fitness Specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. This means I adopt an integrated approach that includes flexibility, cardiorespiratory, core, balance, plyometric,speed, agility, and quickness (SAQ),and resistance training.

A lot of fitness programs these days are about growing your muscles, or performing very high intense exercises. What if you are 75 and have arthritis? or you’re 50 and have other conditions? What if you are looking to just stay healthy, maintain balance, and prevent falls? Not a lot of programs address these issues. As a RN and a trainer, I address it all.
